Building Momentum in Microplastics Research: SIMCoast at the National Workshop

March 17, 2026

The SIMCoast team recently participated in the 2026 Micro and Nanoscale Plastics (MNP) Workshop in Mobile, Alabama, hosted by the Gulf Coast Center for Addressing Microplastics Pollution (GC-CAMP) and sponsored by NSF ESPCoR.

GC-CAMP highlighted its work on MNP sampling and characterization, along with complementary education and outreach efforts developed in partnership with the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. The workshop convened researchers, students, and industry leaders from across the country to exchange ideas and showcase emerging approaches to understanding and addressing micro- and nanoplastics in aquatic environments.

During the event, Adam Ayouche (postdoc, RT2), Sarah Davis (postdoc, RT1 and RT2), and  Daniel Roxbury (SIMCoast PI) presented SIMCoast’s interdisciplinary research. They received strong interest and positive feedback, particularly for its integration of modeling and early, sustained stakeholder engagement. The meeting also opened the door to new collaborations and future partnerships that will help broaden the reach and impact of our work.
