RT2: Modeling the transport and fate of
NMPs in coastal systems
Understanding how NMPs move through the aquatic environment provides an important baseline for developing place-based mitigation strategies to protect culturally and ecologically valuable areas. To achieve this objective, RT2 will develop two spatial tools to enhance our understanding of NMP transport: (1) flow maps, which will illustrate the distribution of NMPs in the environment and shed light on where they originate and accumulate, and (2) a forecast system, which will predict when and where pollutants like NMPs may appear. RT2 aims to partner with local stakeholders and allow their priorities and concerns to shape the development and application of these tools.
